According
to the EPA, lead paint poisoning affects over one million
children today. Learning disabilities, hearing loss, and violent
behavior are some of the effects that lead paint can have
on young children. Many homes and apartments built before
1978 included lead-based paint. The lead from paint, chips,
and dust can pose serious health hazards! It's important to
educate yourself. If buying a home built before 1978, did
the seller or real estate agent provide you with a Lead
Based Paint Disclosure form?
The EPA suggests numerous reasons to have your
Jacksonville home tested for lead paint (Lead
Paint Checklist):
- there are (or will be) young children in the home (children's
bodys absorb lead faster)
- you are renting or buying a home
- you are about to remodel, renovate, repaint, or otherwise
maintain your home in a way that might disturb lead paint
(re: touching lead paint or breathing dust with lead)
Here's what
you need to know about lead poisoning from the EPA. Areas
where lead can be found:
- Paint - typically in homes built before 1978.
- In soil around the home
- Household dust
- Drinking water
- Old painted toys and furniture
