Say ‘THANK YOU’ with Oktoberfest Jacksonville!

October 1, 2018 | Around Town

What’s the easiest way for you to say ‘Thank You’ to your favorite friends, customers, builders and affiliates in Jacksonville? Invite them to attend Oktoberfest Jacksonville for FREE on Friday Oct 12th!It came to me in a vision. The answer to the marketing question that has perplexed real estate professionals since The Flintstones bought their first home in Bedrock… How could you bring the best and brightest builders, Realtors and affiliates together with 10,000 potential home-buyers in a single venue for a live business development event? The vision became clear — the answer was beer!Research reveals an interesting intersection between the early development of beer and the evolution of the modern real estate agent. In ancient Mesopotamia, clay tablets indicate that brewing was a well-respected occupation and that the majority of brewers were women. A coincidence?… I think not!Oktoberfest Jacksonville is being presented by Anheuser-Busch and Client Focused Media — the people who … Continued

Let the Jacksonville Sun Shine in with an “Enlightened Roof”

August 24, 2018 | Energy Audits

Enlightenment isn’t just a state of mind – it can also be an important energy-saving state of being for your home’s roof. By “enlightening” your roof, you can use less energy, save money, and dress up the interior of your home at the same time. All roofs protect us, and the interiors of our homes, but they can do so much more. They can be the collection and distribution point for an inexhaustible supply of free natural light and energy. HomePro Inspections provides quality home inspections to the Jacksonville area. Benefits of a Skylight A roof that uses Energy Star qualified venting skylights, for instance, admits healthful natural light while providing passive ventilation through the natural “chimney effect” of rising air. This is not an insignificant consideration especially in kitchens and baths that have higher moisture and humidity levels than other areas of the home. Another kitchen- and bath-specific issue … Continued

Tonya’s Real Chocolate Tapioca Pudding

October 14, 2017 | Food & Fun

Tonya’s Treats from the Conway Kitchen   Tonya’s Real Chocolate Tapioca Pudding Truth be told we are not really dessert people in the Conway household.  Most meals do have some fruit as a sweet treat, but desserts as you might think of them are very rare to be had in our home.  That being said, after years of listening to Wally tell tales of his mom making him tapioca pudding, I had to give it a go. Wally’s mom passed away in 1986, so there was no way for me to capture the original recipe.  That left me to blend what little I knew about pudding with all I know about Wally’s taste buds. This recipe uses “real” tapioca; not the instant kind – because everything tastes better when you put on an apron! This turned out to be a sweet surprise for Wally.  Not only did he love the tapioca pudding, but … Continued

Fuel Your Group with Turnip Soup!

September 3, 2017 | Food & Fun

Tonya’s Treats from the Conway Kitchen Fuel Your Group with Turnip Soup!  Experimenting with different foods to create new dishes is something Wally and I really enjoy. Since most everything we eat is grown local at KYVfarm.com or BlackHogFarm.com, we eat whatever is fresh from the field each week.  We don’t decide WHAT to eat; we decide HOW to eat whatever is fresh and local.  When turnips showed up, it was time to cut’em up, spice’em up, cook’em up and eat’um up.  Delicious and nutritious!          Ingredients 1 TB coconut oil 4 small turnips, cubed 1 small onion or several scallions, diced 3 celery stalks, chopped 3 carrots, chopped 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp coriander 1 tsp cumin 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp paprika 4 cups chicken stock 1 cup water 1 bay leafDash of cayenne, to taste  Directions Heat coconut oil and sauté turnips … Continued

Real Food. Real Farm. Real Farmer!

November 14, 2016 | Food & Fun

There’s a ton of talk going on these days about saving family farms. Some blame goofy government subsidy programs.  That’s a factor. Some blame the industrialization of the food chain. That’s a factor, too. Two questions for you: Do family farms matter? And if family farms matter, how do we save them?  Family farms matter a lot to the families that own them and to the families that work them. Some farms have been tended by the same families for generations, spanning centuries. Some are a first-generation fulfillment of a dream. Family farms matter to me because farm-fresh food tastes GREAT! Family farms matter to me because it makes my body feel healthier. Family farms matter to me because some of the finest, hardest working, and most since people you will ever meet are family farmers.  Meet Casey Lane. Casey and his family raise hogs. His hogs are raised without hormones, … Continued

It’s awesome to know that you have been enjoying the recipes I’ve been sharing with you through the years. Some of you have even shared that your newfound fresh and funky food passion has resulted in a more healthy and vibrant life! The most common question we get about the recipes is if we REALLY eat them, or if it’s just a story. The story is we really prepare them at home, eat them, and enjoy them. Often on the boat! A consistent question is, “Where do you find your awesome ingredients?”  To answer that, we’ll share with you some of our favorite sites to find great groceries.  An awesome place to get a fast glance … Continued

Jax Cigar Club

August 1, 2012 | Food & Fun

If the Most Interesting Man in the World was House Hunting in Jacksonville, what real estate professionals would he most enjoy sharing a cigar with? I don’t always smoke cigars, but when I do, it’s with the Jacksonville Cigar Club! The Jax Cigar Club was launched on a lark as an excuse for a few fellows to enjoy cigars together. Founding members David Neves of Watson Realty, Jeff Stoneking of Brightway Insurance and John Adams, Chase VP of lending quickly realized that if they claimed the purpose of the gathering was “real estate networking” their wives and bosses would be pleased with their professional dedication.   David Neves gave me a real special gift this year at Clyde’s in Tallahassee during the Realtor Days legislative event – As ranked by Cigar Aficionado Magazine, the finest cigar available in world today is the Flor de las Antillas Toro.  It was while enjoying these … Continued
