Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can only be detected through professional testing. Most commonly forming in the soil beneath a home, radon can rise to dangerous levels and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. At HomePro Inspections, we offer radon testing (also commonly referred to as an inspection) so you are properly informed and can take steps to mitigate if necessary. 3-Day Radon Test
Radon testing is recommended anytime you purchase a new or existing home, or move into a rental property.
- 3-day sampling period
- Lab tested
- Lab report included
- Two site visits required
Description: Two airtight containers with activated charcoal are deployed in the home. Radon that’s present in the air will absorb onto the charcoal granules. After the 3-day sampling period, the container is sealed and sent to a certified lab for analysis. Radon that has absorbed into the charcoal is measured at the lab with a sodium iodide detector.
Note: Site location(s) chosen by customer. Samples are shipped to an accredited lab for testing.
Learn the Facts about Radon
Since radon is an invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas, testing is the only way to determine the radon levels in your home.
Radon is produced during the radioactive breakdown of naturally occurring radium that is found in most soils.
Radon can be released by building materials, such as granite countertops, that are inside a home.
Originating in the soil, radon gas typically enters a home through small openings in the foundation. Radon levels within a home can increase when the gas gets trapped inside.
Any home – old, new, well-sealed, with or without a basement – can have high levels of radon gas.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. (smoking is the first). It’s the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
While some geographic areas are more prone to high radon levels than others, location does not provide an accurate prediction. Homes in the same neighborhood can have vastly different radon levels.
It’s a common myth that radon does not exist in Florida due to the sandy soil. However, the EPA claims that high levels of radon have been detected in all states, and recommends testing for all locations.
